September 2017 Trip to Botswana
The next trip out is in late September 2017. We will be continuing our focus of creating a summer camp with various activities for the children to do on a daily basis. Past trips have enabled us to prepare in advance the activities that we would like to do in order to minimise the impact of being rushed by the children. By being prepared in advance we can ensure that all of the children are catered for.
This also helps to support the carer's, enabling them time to do other things whilst we sped time entertaining the children and giving them an opportunity to learn new skills and activities. The main requirement is that you are willing to work with children and take part in assisting where you can.
I am Interested, tell me more.
We are looking for volunteers interested in attending our half yearly trip to Botswana. Flying out in late September 2017, you will use your various skills, numerous attributes and endless capacity for love to have an unforgettable shared experience with the children of SOS Children's villages.
Each year the trip gets better and better as we learn more about how best we can support the orphaned children. Our objective is to make a difference to the lives of the children, and we do this through running a summer camp for 10 days, doing various activities, like;
arts and crafts, cooking, music, film night, swimming lessons, BBQ, photography workshop, decorating
As a volunteer you will have so much to give, more than you might imagine yourself capable of, and you will also learn a lot from the incredibly humble and resilient children you have the privilege to meet.
You may be wondering, “what can I do” or “how can I help”? I believe that everyone has the skills to support this project. Since this project began we have had volunteers from many different backgrounds who have come out to help (Bond Traders, Administrators, Nannies, Builders, Managers, Lawyers, Retirees) with an age range spanning 21 to mid 70’s, and I can honestly say that everyone has made a difference and learnt a lot along the way.
We ask volunteers for a deposit of £100 to secure a place and also make a commitment to fundraise an additional £1,400 for Project Volunteer before the trip. The total of £1,500 covers our costs for sending one volunteer to Botswana, including the flights, accommodation, materials, some meals and other associated costs.
The Project Volunteer Fundraising Team can help you with raising funds if need be and will support in any sponsorship event that you may wish to undertake.
